Perhaps you can help me with an erotic comics dilemma?
And now for the bajillion details.

I live with my extended family, which means essentially no privacy. When ever something we order comes in online everyone immediately wants to know what it is and stares at you while you open it.
Moving on, I really love the artist Torajirou Kishi. His manga have smooth crisp lines and don't have extraneous tones. His stories also seem to be semi-realistic which is refreshing. I respect his art and recently purchased one of his books. Today "Kissing Mars" arrived in the mail (along with other manga) and I'm ecstatic. (even if it has no furigana T-T)

On borders.com (as those of you fellow rewards members know) I have a 33% off coupon and $10 borders rewards money. I could potentially save a lot of money depending on my order.
I was considering ordering the second volume of Maka-Maka by Kishi. However, it's got naked women embracing in the shower on the cover (the first volume does have nudity but it's a peek-a-boo cover in which they are standing clothed at attention). I don't want this book to show up, everyone to look inside my borders box and be like, "Good lord, Blanquita! You've bought lesbian PORRRRNNNN!!!!!" and me being like "NOOOO!!!!"

Though, the book is classified as a "erotica."

And also if I do purchase it, it's going to be sitting on my manga shelf in plain view. I don't want it to be awkward if someone picks it up. Flips through it and just goes "omg this book is nothing but lesbian sex!" >_>

Am I just lacking balls or something?

Should I just purchase something else?
I agree i would just have it shipped to a friends house if you can trust them. But really you need like a safe or something if your gunna have things like that and you don't want people to see it. A hiding place would be good too. But this sounds like something you would see in a movie. lol
Is Japan the most gay/lesbian country in the world and are most Japanese gay but just hide it?
Japan is the most sexed country, we know that. With all it's porn and stuff.

Ok i was seeing some documentary yesterday about Japan and they were talking about Men going for Lovedolls cause women prefer to be with women.

They showed also about how Japan has
Boy Love comics, Tarazuka theatre which is really popular. There were some interviews with those tarazuka actresses and they said "i wish i can be a man in my next life". The wfeminine women who go to watch those shows were saying things like "Those tarazuka actresses are the perfect males, i would like to be in love with one" "they are better than real men".
Then, they talked about Onabes too. And girls want onabes more than man. And onabes with beard and being hosts to a bunch of girls who love them.

Then there was a club for guys who could go there and do "Air sex" , they mentioned something about how they do it cause there is no women for them anymore.

Japan women do seem to want women instead of men.
Wow...that is an interesting concept?!??

I thought Netherlands was the most gay-oriented...followed by Canada.
You think Batwoman and that other girl in 52 are Lesbians just so Dc comics can make more in sales?
I think that would be pretty obvious especially Leabian sex scenes which they have already shown in one Issue where Black Adam walks in on a Lesbian doing it with some girl. Stuff like that for the male and Feamale audience really Boost sales because Sex sells!!!
Oh I totally think that that stuff sells. Come on porn sells great so why not add it into our comics which used to just fine without the sex scenes. They are just looking to make a larger sudience even if it means ruining great stories for it.
Is it wrong for me to publish a book like this?
I've already made the comic which is fully in Russian. The rating is probably going to be R-18, R-16 or PG-13; meaning I haven't decided on that yet even though I looked back at it last weekend and considering it's contents it may have implications on the sex and some sexually suggestive themes. Although I don't think the publishers will like it. T_T By the way it's a yuri doujinshi; meaning a lesbian comic. Please give me some feedback whether or not I should publish it. Oh and by the way I'm not Russian but I'm trying a new language on it. P.S. It's actually a lesbian hentai book focused
on me and the singer Yulia Volkova and I'm 13 years old.
That's actually not yuri. As one of the primary characters is an age female, it classifies as lolicon... which a lot of people (even yuri fans) find a bit squicky.

But it's entirely up to you whether or not you publish it. Lolicon has it's fans, just as yuri does.

Just be aware that, since you're only 13, you would have to self-publish. You cannot enter a biding contract with a publisher without the consent of your parent or guardian, and I'm guessing you weren't planning on telling them about it.

You should also be careful if you self-insertion character is actually recogonizable as you. Because this will follow you for life.
Not at all sure how to put this...?
OK, so I JUST started reading 'Jane's World' comics, like, yesterday, and since it's like a huge story, I found an archive and went through it since, oh, 2003. My question, then, I guess, is, 'When you're gay, do you REALLY keep running into other gay people?' I ask because, One, I've NEVER met a gay person (knowingly- I'm from a pretty conservative part of the country, and live in a rural area, and attended a Christian university, but, still, I should've met at least ONE gay person by now, right?! Note I didn't say 'I' was conservative- I've got no problems with gay people, except for the fact that I don't know ANYTHING about them.) But, uh, yeah. It seems that ALL of Jane's female friends are gay, and she knows, like, two guys, one of whom is gay... And then EVERY story line seems to have some sort of lesbian romance in it... I mean, I'm at July 2008, and Jane and three friends (ALL gay) crash on a desert isle with polynesians on it, and the king wants his daughter to marry Jane, which makes sense if they thinks she's a guy, but then it turns out SHE'S gay, too?! I mean, it just seems weird, that EVERYWHERE Jane goes she meets lesbians, but I have YET to find one. (Well, I'm not exactly looking, but... well, you know what I mean. I hope.)
I'm thinking, this has GOT to be because it's a comic about a lesbian, written by a lesbian (I assume), so that's what she wants to write about. I mean, I think it's pretty good and has some nice wit to it and all, but, gee wiz, how many gay people ARE there? They (I seriously don't want to imply 'They' in a bad way- see, I don't actually KNOW any gay people, so I have no idea what's offensive or not!) make up, what, 10% of the American population? So are they all in one place, or something?! But, I mean, seriously! I can only recall ONE person from the comic who has yet to have some kind of same-sex relationship.
But this incident (?) really points out a flaw in me, I think- the fact that essentially ALL my knowledge of gays comes from Will and Grace, and of lesbians now from Jane's World. So... I don't know! Just, if you're gay, do OTHER gay people just show up everywhere? 'Cause that's how it seems from my incredibly small glimpse into gay society.
Again, I KNOW NOTHING about gay people, so if I said anything offensive, I swear I didn't mean it- it comes from GROSS ignorance. Also, I have a tendency to SERIOUSLY try to not offend people, to the point where I get uncomfortable around minorities and the like because I DON'T want to offend them. It's like, the extreme opposite of racism, I guess? I don't know...
Anyway, just curious. Uhm... Yeah.
Actually, I live in a fairly liberal part of the country (NYC metro area suburbs), and I almost never just "run into" lesbians or gay men -- at least not that I know of -- unless I make the effort to attend GLBT social events. I have some lesbian and gay male friends and acquaintances, but they're all people I either met at GLBT social group meetings, or through Yahoo Personals. Most of my friends, the ones I met either at work or through non-specifically- GLBT social activities, are all hetero.

So I think the situation described in the "Jane's World" comic strip is not an accurate reflection of real life -- unless its set in San Francisco, or Provincetown, or Northampton, MA, or some other lesbian or gay Mecca, and maybe not even then. Its the author's idealized little fantasy world, I guess.

BTW, when I first came out to myself, 16 years ago, I discovered the comic strip "D*kes to Watch Out For" by Alison Bechdel, and that was my first little window into Lesbian Land, so I totally know where you're coming from.
My mom thinks i'm gay. help?
not that they'res anything wrong with being gay. i'm just not gay. the thing is i'm sorta feminine so ppl think that. i also have some gay comics on my computer. they don't turn me on, i just like the writing and the characters happen to be gay. My mom thinks i'm gay and she keeps telling me "you can tell me anything" or "i'll love you no matter what" its good to know that if i was gay she wouldn't be weird but i'm not. the more i say i'm not the more she believes i am. the truth is i'm a straight, have a girlfriend who i have sex with semi often, and have about 20 gigs worth of lesbian porn on my computer. my striahgtness can't be measured with numbers. thats why its pissing me off that she thinks i'm gay. (not that theres anything wrong with it) it just is sorta depressing. what do i do?
I love Jenn's answer.
Why is our culture terrified of sexuality?
PROLOGUE: Understand, this post is not directed as a challenge to those who are religious minded. I am addressing this question to those with no specific supreme being or doctrine to answer to.

Am I alone in noticing that, while it seems like a majority of American citizens do not strongly align themselves with any religion ( www.religioustolerance.org/rel_ra… ), our culture continues to cling to a Victorian myopia regarding sexuality?

For example, my own observations are that greater than half of the Yahoo Answers community chime in with this attitude by prefixing "ew!" or "gross!" to any question that passingly involves sexuality.

Anyone who speaks openly or honestly about sex is often carelessly labeled a "pervert" by their peers. Those flinging this epithet do not often think about the fact that the word's initial intention was to classify religious heretics in a manner unrelated to sexuality: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/pervert#Us…

Some non-mainstream movements which overlap sexual taboo: such as Gay and Lesbian rights organizations, Nudists, and Otaku have gained western mind share in the last half-century, but it seems as though this has only occurred in lockstep with renouncing sexuality in order to recast themselves in the public eye.

---

For example, Nudism advocates will cry "Do not sexualize nudity!" and distance themselves from anyone who admits being aroused by the naked human form. From what I have read, the party line among nudists is to celebrate our bodies in their natural state, but also to ban individuals who demonstrate any natural involuntary arousal response (for example, male erections).

---

Homosexuals and Bisexuals strive to gain acceptance in our society regardless of their sexual preferences, and to bond together to form loosely knit communities which celebrate their diversity. However — despite the core dispute between this group and the mainstream being about activities which occur in the bedroom — the fight for acceptance appears to me to have centered more upon gender stereotypes and tolerance of superficial behavioral differences, backed by the attitude "what we do in private is none of your business".

As someone who anticipates the day when the LGBT community no longer suffers from injustice, I feel disappointed by this approach. Much like they are trimming the ends off of a weed of intolerance which they ought to be extracting by the roots. But I address this question with a broader scope because I believe the problem I cite extends beyond the confines of this one movement.

"Otaku" are more commonly known as fans of Japanese culture. Either commercially or as armatures; they import comics, media and merchandise from our neighbors across the pacific. While I neither subscribe to nor understand all components of oriental culture myself, I appreciate that there is a vast amount we can learn from the way they perceive the world which might improve our own way of life.

Unfortunately, in order to strike a chord in the western marketplace, Otaku tend to "sanitize" mainstream Japanese media when offering English language equivalents here. They do this by censoring, excising or purposely mistranslating material which is considered shocking or sexually provocative here in the US, while mainstream and harmless in the orient.

As a result of this, I allege that we are presented an amputated view of cultural reality outside of our own sheltered hemisphere. I find that bare fact magnitudes more disturbing than I would ever find any nudity or cheeky innuendo.

---

My position is that ignorance breeds ignorance. The more our culture fears, shuns, and ignores the essential part of being human that is sexuality, the more we will have to fear from the sexually-related crime headlines (also magnified out of proportion by sensationalism) which in turn fuel our willful ignorance.

I demand this vicious cycle be stopped, and I suggest that the first step is for each of us to look into our own lives at our own fear of sexuality and master that. Then we can participate, as part of this culture, to put on the brakes against obtuse intolerance.

---

So I put the question to you: Do you agree with my assessment of our cultural hypocrisy? If so, do you agree this is the best way to resist it, or have you other options for us to consider? If you do not agree, what is your viewpoint instead?

Thank you for your consideration.
Hi Melinda,

I agree with the vast majority of what you're saying. I do feel though that even though sexually related crime is sensationalized, I do feel that heavy coverage of this topic is important. I personally feel that some percentage of crimes in this category are caused by how our culture deals with the subject of sexuality. I therefore feel that in a round-about way the media clamoring about sex crime does force us as a nation to look at how we view sexuality.

As to whether or not there is a better way to bring about change - I really don't know. I thought that to a large extent the hippies of the 60's were on the right track with the whole free love thing. But, that generation seems to have become the mainstay of today's fundamentalist religious movement.

I agree with you that change is needed though am at a loss as to how to push that along effectively. I am interested to see what other answers you get.
Is the way that the LGBT community is portrayed in media what is fueling a lot of prejudices against it?
A lot of people say they ignore stereotypes, but that's not entirely true. On TV or in movies the black guys are always portrayed as being all ignorant or gangster or to deliver comic relief. Asians are portrayed as smart.

Then every show has the gay friend, who never seems to be in a relationship or express love for any man, rather just stand there and seem all flamboyant just to make it funny. Or lesbian/bisexual woman are portrayed as whores or are used just for sex scenes. Do you think closed minded people see this and think that's what all gays are like, therefore they are all annoying or whores and I don't like them?

That's not to say some stereotypes are never true in some cases or even most of the time, but do you think the fact that any minority is objectified and not treated like real human beings in media just fuels prejudices? I think Brokeback Mountain is one of the only movies that got it at least half right and portrayed a real relationship. Other than that I never see a gay/lesbian main character in a movie/book/tv show or even a real character who's sexuality isn't used as a tool such as comic relief or a steamy sex scene.

Opinions?
Bingo!

The media controls our society. And their depiction of gay men/women as sex addicted whores doesn't help us one bit! Even in guyren shows, you'll see gay male hairstylists talking in a feminine voice to serve as humor. Partly why guyren like Spongebob is because of his effeminate characteristics! I'm not sure if it these sources of comic relief help or not, but they definitely fuel the stereotype that all gay men act girly.

There is pretty much a stereotype for every group in America: teenagers, senior citizens, men, women, blacks, whites. Although I'm not naive enough to say that these stereotypes hold no truth (because all stereotypes hold some truth, or else they would not exist), others are naive and gullible enough to believe all people act the way they're portrayed on the tv. This is true for guyren to an even larger scale!

The only thing we can do to combat the negative stereotype is by showing the masses that we're all not some crazy, gender confused sluts looking for someone to have sex with. And we have achieved this objective, to some extent. For examples, pictures of gay/lesbian couples at gay parades flood the internet. Famous gay celebrities looking for marriage and stable relationships change the way the public sees us. But the most effective way we can defeat these nasty generalizations is by denying them in our own lives. When people come in contact with me, the last thing I'll ever do is affirm that stereotype. The more homosexuals there are who are committed to proving the world wrong, the more people will realize that we aren't how the media portrays us.

In short, I believe the best way to combat the media's false portrayals is by showing others how gays truly act in reality.
Looking for the name of an x-rated online comic I found about 3 or 4 years ago.?
The comic was free on the artist's website and was titled something along the lines of "Kevin's Lesbian Mom" or "John's Hot Lesbian Mom." The story, oddly enough, involved a guy's mom who was secretly a lesbian. One day the guy's girlfriend comes over (also hot) and discovers his mom's little secret. She decides to join in having sex with his mom but doesn't have sex with him.

The art style was something similar to Penny Arcade and was in full color. Call me a perv or whatever, it doesn't matter. I just really want to find this comic again and I'm offering 1000 Internets to anyone that helps me out on this. Thanks.
Sexy losers.
Lesbians: Is this statement true or false?
(This is from the comic Jane's World, but I thought it was hilarious)
"Lesbians never break up, they just stop having sex, and become best friends."
True or false?
False .

haha I think in some cases it can be true but it depends a lot on why it ended. If my partner cheated, I would most definitely NOT become her best friend after its overXD But if a couple just loses the spark over time, I think its reasonable to still be good friends. Usually when people break up for the latter reason its because they start becoming bored with each other and just want to meet new people and stuff so I don't think they would usually become best friends after. Someone might get over the other quicker and then the one whos still got feelings for the other is going to have a hard time...I think after people break up usually they should keep their distance for a bit.
